ABSTRACT
The present invention relates to a portable ticket generating machine eradicating the use of paper by generating a ticket corresponding to a fingerprint and storing the ticket in machine. This ticketing method is generally used in bus and train transportation. Objective of this invention is to provide a better and secure ticketing experience without using any paper and to save the time of passengers for purchasing tickets before departure from any station. This ticketing system offers paperless experience which saves a lot of money and it also helps in the conservation of the environment.

CLAIMS

1. A biometric ticketing system and method for a bus transit; system comprising; a) a ticket generating machine, b) a GPS module, c) a fingerprint module.

2. A biometric ticketing system and method for a bus transit as claimed in claim 1 wherein said ticket generating machine further comprises microcontroller connected to memory chip for storage, LCD display, keypad and power source.

3. A biometric ticketing system and method for a bus transit as claimed in claim 1 wherein said GPS module is installed in said ticket generating machine.

4. A biometric ticketing system and method for a bus transit as claimed in claim 1 wherein said fingerprint module is connected wirelessly with ticket generating machine through means of Bluetooth.

5. A biometric ticketing system and method for a bus transit as claimed in claim 1 wherein the method comprising the steps of a) scanning of passenger fingerprint using the fingerprint module and storing it on a database, b) obtaining current location of passenger using the GPS module, c) manual feeding of destination location to calculate ticket price which is being shown on the LCD display of machine, d) associating the initial fingerprint data captured in step (a) with a unique description related to bus transit, storing said data and description in said database and storing said fingerprint data and said unique description in an electronic document. e) Passenger verification during bus transit.

5. A biometric ticketing system and method for a bus transit as claimed in claim 4 wherein the passenger verification comprises steps; a) Checking of passenger fingerprint on fingerprint module b) Matching of obtained passenger fingerprint with the stored fingerprint data and unique description in database. c) Obtaining the verification through means of LED light on ticket generating machine; GREEN light indicates passenger verified and RED light indicates not verified.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The invention relates to a biometric ticketing system more particularly for generation of tickets during a bus transit which is done by using the ticket generating machine and a method for verification of passengers onboard



BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Transportation is the largest national economy, people's livelihood related industries, but also the most basic national infrastructure supporting the industry. Transport is the largest consumer travel demand consumption expenditure in anyone’s life. Therefore, the specification transport travel ticket management, the implementation of traffic information, intelligent traffic travel universal implementation of safe and convenient transportation tickets, dense high-end electronic ticket and stop detection device technology will be very necessary.

Ticketing system for bus transport is currently hardware based where the customer presents a transit card or pay cash for obtaining a slip for ride on the bus. Where operator manually enter the pickup location and drop location of the passenger in the ticket generating machine to obtain a paper slip for the ride.

The prior art patent no WO2008055181A2 discloses a method for passenger identity verification. A barcode is placed on a passenger's boarding documents upon check in. The barcode is read by a barcode reader. Biometric data is collected from the passenger using a biometric collection device. The barcode and biometric data is then stored on a server such that the biometric data is associated with the barcode data. At a verification point, the barcode is again read by a barcode reader and biometric data is collected from the passenger using a biometric collection device.Drawback-It does not eleimate the need of physical paper.

The prior art patent number: ZL200920309827 , utility model as a ticket, a ticket to the technical disclosure applies to the subway station, train station and a number of public transportation options. The utility model includes the body, is set on the body surface there is a carry-out port, on the surface provided with the ticket gate and the sensing area, characterized by: left and right sides of the body are provided with baffles, a central angle of the baffle acute sector. The utility model is still not able to solve some problems and now the ticket real-name system. For example: it can not detect whether the ticket holder's identity information to identity information on tickets.

Major problems with the ticketing system is that they include usage of paper or board or some kind of physical material which is resulting into degradation of environments and further these things also incur cost of manufacturing with them. These paper tickets takes time at the time of passenger verification. So a need to the following invention rises.



SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a biometric ticketing system for generating tickets in transportation mainly in bus or train.

This invention talks about a biometric ticketing system and method for a bus transit; system comprising;

-a ticket generating machine,

- a GPS module,

-a fingerprint module.

Ticket generating machine further comprises microcontroller connected to memory chip for storage, LCD display, keypad and power source.

It is an object of the invention to obtain current location of the passenger with the help of GPS module installed in ticket generating machine.

Bus transit information of any passenger is manually fed into the ticket generating machine which mainly consist of information about destination stop of passenger and after that ticket price for particular route will be calculated by machine and simultaneously is displayed on the machine.

According to present invention biometric data such as fingerprint of a passenger can be obtained through fingerprint module and said data can be associated with the description of bus transit information of passenger and further to be stored in the database such as memory chip installed in the ticket generating machine in the form of an electronic document.

According to another embodiment passenger verification comprises below steps to check whether a particular passenger has bought ticket or not.

a) Checking of passenger fingerprint on ticket generating machine

b) Matching of obtained passenger fingerprint with the stored fingerprint data and unique description in database.

c) Obtaining the verification through means of LED light on ticket generating machine; GREEN light indicates passenger verified and RED light indicates not verified.

Ticketing method starts by obtaining the fingerprint of the individual and by collecting current location with the help of GPS module inserted in the ticket generating machine and therefore by entering destination location manually ticket will be generated and stored in the machine corresponding to the fingerprint of each individual.

In an object of the invention sometimes during the journey a need to validate the passengers occurs whether he/she has bought the ticket or not. As the ticket checker or any other authority can recheck the authentication of passenger by just scanning the fingerprint of that passenger and machine connected wirelessly through fingerprint module will show that the passenger has bought ticket or not by showing green light signal as yes and red light signal as no.

It is an object of the invention to make the ticketing process fast and reliable for passengers as well as for the ticket providers. This paperless ticketing system will serve as a great method to secure our environment as it ultimately reduce the use of paper which will save the cutting of trees.

In an embodiment machine can also store the travel related information of each passenger so that in future when passenger travel for the same route again ticketing process can be made fast by just selecting the previous route suggestion by the machine.

Embodiments of the present disclosure substantially eliminate or at least partially address the aforementioned problems in the prior art, and provide an efficient edge over the previous products or process. The problem with the existing ticketing products in the market is the use of paper for providing security and transparency in ticketing system whereas, our ticket generating machine offers “Paperless” benefits, which helps in the conservation of the environment and also saves a lot of money spent on paper every year.

Additional aspects, advantages, features and objects of the present disclosure would be made apparent from the drawings and the detailed description of the illustrative embodiments construed in conjunction with the appended claims that follow.

It will be appreciated that features of the present disclosure are susceptible to being combined in various combinations without departing from the scope of the present disclosure as defined by the appended claims.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

As required, detailed embodiments of the present invention are disclosed herein; however, it is to be understood that the disclosed embodiments are merely exemplary of the invention which may be embodied in various forms. Therefore, specific structural and functional details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but merely as a basis for the claims and as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to variously employ the present invention in virtually any appropriately detailed structure.

Various other objects, advantages, and features of the invention will become more readily apparent to those skilled in the art from the following detailed description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the figures thereof.



Fig 1 shows a block diagram for the biometric ticketing system wherein fingerprints of passengers are been taken to generate and storing of tickets.System is operated by a ticket generating machine and fingerprint module that is connected wirelessly through means of bluetooth. Components of machine include a LCD display to show the price of tickets, a database in form of memory chip which is integrated in the machine to store the tickets and travel related information such as fingerprint data and associated bus transit description, a rechargeable battery to provide the power to machine for its operations, a keypad to enter the passenger details , destination location etc and a microprocessor for integrating all the commands and functions for operation of machine . All the components described above act as a input for the machine to generate tickets.

Figure 1 shows a fingerprint module which is connected to another microprocessor for its controlling .Fingerprint module can be a scanner, sensor or any biometric machine which is capable of obtaining fingerprints of passengers. The fingerprint module and machine are connected through a Bluetooth module comprising transmitter connected at the fingerprint module and a Bluetooth receiver connected at the machines end.

Method of working for bus transit is described below.

1. Fingerprint module receives the scan of fingerprint of any passenger and fingerprint data is saved for generating ticket

2. Ticket generating Machine receives the data that is connected though Bluetooth

3. GPS module in machine provide current location of the passenger

4. Destination location is feeded manually through the keypad of machine, optionally name of individually can also be added for the ticket.

5. After feeding destination into machine a price will be shown on the display of machine to the passenger and further electronic ticket is generated for that passenger.

6. Ticket generated is stored in the memory module with all the associated info such as bus route info, fingerprint data etc

The ticket generating system is also capable of ticket verification of any individual while onboard or travelling. For example sometimes the authority can do a verification check by rechecking the tickets of passengers to make sure that all passengers sitting onboard have bought the tickets, this verification can be simplified by scanning the fingerprint of passenger, after scanning the fingerprint machine will respond accordingly if the scan matches with the stored fingerprint and associated data related to electronic tickets stored in database for that route then green light will glow otherwise if the scan does not match red light will glow indicating that passenger is not verified for the route.
